After listening to the Journey on Relaxation exercise for Unit 2 I was actually quite surprised about the affect it had on me. I expected to be relaxed by the end of it, but I really didn't think that I would succumb to the power of suggestion as much as I did. I really felt as if my arms and hands were really heavy and could not move them at all when asked to. Maybe it was because I just didn't want to move my arms, but whatever it was really seemed to work.
I have used visualization and meditation in the past and it has had a similar affect on me, but not as much as this exercise. I think I might have been in a more accepting state of mind today and was able to fully experience this relaxation technique.
Very enjoyable experience!
Hi Kathryn, I absolutely agree with you about the exercise. I know I need to slow down more so being forced into this exercise I was expecting to be relaxed for a brief moment once I gave into it. I too had the sensation of heavy arms and hands and couldn't raise them. I am aware that it was more of I just didn't want to left my arms. I was enjoying the relaxation and the control of blood flow. It was such a unique experience to fully understand that I can control my inner self with thought. Once the exercise was complete I felt relaxed more then energized though. Maybe I succumbed to deeply. :)
ReplyDeleteI think being in an excepting state of mind is a must to be able to have these techniques work properly. The next time I try this I am definitely going to have to have a better setting even if I have to force it to happen.
ReplyDeleteHi Kathryn,
ReplyDeleteAlthough I agree this is an interesting demonstration in suggestion, I think it's more amazing to discover how easy it was to affect our blood flow! This idea is so radical if we do not accept the mind/body connection. If you think about it, have you ever heard a doctor tell a bleeding patient, "Just direct your blood flow away from the wound" - but this is precisely what this exercise suggests is possible. Amazing stuff! :-)

Hello Kathryn,
ReplyDeleteI really think that maybe I enjoyed the exercise a little too much..because I went to sleep. Imagine that. It was a great exercise, because at first, I really did not think it would work on me. You know, being skeptical, I hung in there anyway, and I halfway, I could not move my arms, and I did not want to. Some hours later, I woke up refreshed..It was a great experience for me. By the way, I love your smile!!
