Subtle Mind

The subtle mind practice was extremely calming and relaxing, although I found it hard to stop the random thoughts from popping into my head and getting to the witnessing mind stage.  I liked this exercise better than the loving kindness exercise because I feel like it can put my state of mind in a better place and help me with other aspects of my life.
Spiritual wellness is very important in nurturing mental and physical wellness.  Without being grounded and centered spiritually your thoughts and actions can be unhealthy and chaotic.  Although I do not practice a particular religion, I do believe in a higher being and in the spiritual connectedness of all human beings.  Believing this I feel helps me to nurture my own feelings of love and well being so that I can pass it on to others.

  1. Hello Kathryn,

This exercise was very calming and relaxing and like you, I had a very hard time trying to stop the random thoughts from popping into my head and getting to the witnessing mind. My thoughts went from breathing to smelling the popcorn in the kitchen...hmmmm!! I feel that this exercise can help us to deal with other aspects in our lives.

I agree Kathryn, spiritual wellness is very important in nurturing mental and physical wellness. I am a Christian, and I know and believe in God. You know Kathryn, I can feel that you have a sweet spirit full of love, and concern for others. Best Wishes in everything you do.

  2. I too had a hard time focusing my mind during the subtle mind exercise. Random thoughts kept popping into my head as well. I too liked that exercise better than the loving kindness exercise. I thought the person’s voice was annoying in the loving kindness exercise and I thought there was too much time between one set of directions to the other set of directions which gave my mind time to wander.

You made a good point that if a person is not grounded their actions can be chaotic and unhealthy. I personally think of spiritual well-being as being the core or center of the overall person’s health. If a person feels grounded or whole they can go on from there and obtain the other pieces of the puzzle to make themselves an overall healthy person.

  3. I have a set religion, but I love learning about other religions. I feel that you have to be open and you can get full benefits.

  4. Hi Katheryn, I believe that "Loving Kindness" exercise helps one reach self achievement in a spiritual level, because this exercise teaches you to embrace love, forgiveness, tolerance, patience. Most of the time, our spirit is held behind because of the hatry we have for someone, but if we think it through deeply, we are hurting our own self, because when you hate, it hurts you in your soul, when you are ungrateful, it makes your soul falling apart, but the "Loving Kindness" shows you the way to "Integral well-being".
