Universal Loving Kindness

Cocoa Beach, Florida
I can see how the Universal Loving Kindness meditation exercise would be helpful in cultivating a good state of mind for integral mental health.  Wishing all individuals freedom from suffering and sustained health, happiness, and wholeness, and wanted to assist others in this pursuit is like chicken soup for the soul.  It really helps yourself to be able to be free from suffering and sustain health, happiness and wholeness.
The assessment I found a little difficult to do, especially since there was not an mp3 to listen to, and I had to read it and kind of go back and forth to figure out what I was doing.  I think this assessment would become a little easier with time and practice.  The biggest thing I want to be the focus of my personal growth and development is to find a new career.  I am happy with most aspects of my job, but it is not very fulfilling to me.  I would prefer a career where I could explore more of my creative abilities.  Graduating with my communications degree is definitely putting me on the right path for that though.  I think the visualizing the job or career I want to have and meditating on it would work best for deciding what I want to do with my life.

  1. It was difficult for me to go back and forth as well. I think doing it several more times and memorizing will make things easier. I hope that once you get your communications degree that you find the job that fits you perfectly.

  2. Hi Kathryn
You are correct this exercise was slightly more challenging but if everything was easy then we might as well give up. Having challenges in life makes up appreciate it more because we had to work at it. The same holds true for work, marriage, children basically everything. You will find the job you want and the one that fits you just need to trust your feelings and take the path that will get you there. God put the seeds of our destiney in us and we have to cultivate them until they mature and we arrrive at them. Turst and love will lead us to happiness, love, and world adventures. Good luck trust your gut. :)

  3. Hi Katheryn,

That is a good way for putting the loving-kindness exercise, because chicken soup is like a boost to your strength. This is the kind of soup you require when you feel sick and that your body needs restoration. So loving-kindness is a restoration for the soul. I encourage you to go for what you would like, because making our own choice of things contributes also to a fuller development.

  4. Hi Kathryn,

I found doing the Universal Loving Kindness exercise more challenging as well due to the fact that we just read it on page 93 and there was not a mp3 for as with the previous exercises.

I am also working on my job/career aspect of my life as my integral assessment. It was good to know I have a fellow traveler and I like what you said about meditating and visualizing yourself in the new job. That was a suggesting I was given in a college course I took on looking for a job/career way back in 2005! At that time I was looking at clerical work and I remember I did actual get the job I had envisioned at the time! It only paid $10 per hour so I could not stay at it. I know envision working as a substance abuse counselor and picture my office where I will sit with my clients! Thank you and it really helped, I like the visualization and wouldn't it be something to one day get a deja vu while I am sitting in my office as a counselor and remember visualizing it!

  5. I love Cocoa Beach! I agree, this exercise was more challenging, but this is what will make us better. We had to let out minds lead the way instead of having someone tell us what do to. This will take a lot of practice and patience for me.
